YISD MFA Update Guide

Created by: YISD Service Desk

Last Updated: February 2026

Overview

YISD employees use Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to securely access district systems. This guide explains how to update your authentication methods, including changing your phone number, adding the Microsoft Authenticator app, or removing outdated authentication options. All MFA updates are completed through your Microsoft Security Info page.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Access the Security Info Page:
  2. View Your MFA Methods:
    • Phone (call or text)
    • Microsoft Authenticator App
    • Other available methods
  3. Update an Existing Method:
    • Click "Change" or "Edit" next to the method you want to update.
    • Follow the prompts to update your phone number, authenticator app, or other method.
    • Save your changes.
  4. Add a New Authentication Method:
    • Click "Add sign-in method."
    • Select the method you want to add (Phone, Authenticator App, etc.).
    • Follow the instructions to complete setup.
    • Confirm the new method appears in your list.
  5. Remove an Old Or Invalid Method:
    • Click "Delete" next to the method your want to remove.
    • Confirm the removal.
    • Make sure you have at least one active authentication method before signing out.

IMPORTANT:

You must keep at least one valid authentication method on file at all  times. If you lose access to all MFA methods, in-person identity verification will be required to recover your account.
